What You’ll Learn, Week by Week:
Weeks 1-2: Building the Basics with Ground Techniques (Ne Waza)
- Judo Etiquette & Warm-Ups: Start with the essentials of dojo etiquette and dynamic stretching.
- Breakfalls (Ukemi): Learn safe, effective falling techniques to build confidence.
- Basic Pins & Escapes: Practice holds like Kesa Gatame and learn escapes to stay in control on the mat.
Weeks 3-4: Throwing Techniques (Nage waza)
- Throwing Basics: Learn essential throws like O Goshi (hip throw) and Osoto Gari (major outer reap).
- Balance & Grip Control: Develop gripping skills and learn to unbalance your partner for effective throws.
Weeks 5-6: Submission Techniques & Ground Drills
- Submissions with Safety: Discover beginner submissions like the Juji Gatame (arm lock) with a focus on safety.
- Light Sparring & Ground Drills: Build fluidity in groundwork through beginner-friendly drills and sparring.
Week 7: Linking Throws with Ground Techniques
- Throw-to-Pin Combinations: Connect throws with ground techniques to create fluid transitions.
- Stand-Up and Ground Sparring: Practice all you’ve learned in a supportive, controlled sparring environment.
Week 8: Review, Sparring, and Graduation Celebration
- Technique Review: Refine all techniques from the program with personalized feedback.
- Randori & Next Steps: Set goals for your continued Judo journey and celebrate with your group!
Program Details:
- Who It’s For: Beginners aged 13+ who want to learn Judo fundamentals.
- Start Date: January 9, 2025 (perfect for New Year’s resolutions!)
- Duration: 8 weeks of training on Thursdays from 18.45 to 19.45 and on Saturdays from 9.00 to 10.00 (you’re welcome to attend both or only one of these).
- Location: Unit 4 Low Hall Road, Horsforth, LS18 4EF
- Cost: £40 including the borrowing of a brand-new, boxed up judo Gi which you can keep if joining after the 8-weeks program.
